Now days the lenses of sunglasses are made of colorized plastics like polycarbonate. Still…some high quality, branded sunglasses use glasses instead of plastic. The
Sunglasses do come in various shapes and sizes. They are even categorized in to men’s sunglasses, women’s sunglasses, and kid’s sunglasses! Though the main purpose of wearing a sunglass is to protect your eyes from the harmful radiations from the sun, it is still used as a fashion statement! Quite evidently…The big and heavy frames are back in fashion! These frames are often made of metal or plastic. The quality of the plastic highly depends and varies on the brand of the sunglasses. Metal frames are made of mixtures of nickel and other metals such as silver, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium. Plastic frames are mostly from Zylonite or Polycarbonate. Though some of the high end plastic frames are as expensive as metal frames. Metal frames tend to have a longer and better life!Though there are quite a few international standards for sunglass there is no ISO standard that exists for sunglasses. The CE mark issued by the Europeans indicates that the sunglass does not have sufficient sun protection. Another standard is “AS/NZ1067:2003” Australia had introduced the world's first national standards for sunglasses. And ANSI Z80.3-2001 is the U.S standard for sunglasses. Some of the popular brands that carry the above seals are, Prada, Ed Hardy, Armani, Gucci, and D&G. The next time you go for the pair of sunglass, watch out for the standard seal/logo.
